Viral?! A Santa Cruz home birth?!

I always wondered what it was like when a photograph went viral. With my son home from school one day we had a lazy morning in our PJs. I checked my emailed as he watched Clone Wars.  I was shocked to find my email inbox flooded with mail from The Daily Mail, Today and Inside Edition and all other sorts of media from around the world! Everyone wanted more pictures and more information and they all wanted it NOW! After some fast and furious emailing and phone interviews and the story just took off on its own!
Now I know what it feels like to go viral!  And the rest of the world is seeing Travis and Kim Guiley’s Santa Cruz home birth and their awesome reaction to Baby Theo being a boy!

Many people have asked how the images went viral. I do believe it all started from The Daily Mail in the UK. They saw the image on Instagram and asked to run the story about the home birth. After they ran it all the American news outlets wanted it too. Once the story was out in America more European newspapers and blogs posted it. It was so interesting to see all the different languages the story was printed in!

As a result, by the end of the day, let’s just say my kiddo had reached his TV quota- probably for the year! More importantly though, the world got to see a glimpse into the fascinating world of home birth here in little Santa Cruz California!
