San Francisco Lifestyle Maternity Photography!

What an honor it is to spend some time with your clients in their favorite places doing lifestyle maternity photography!  Kim and Travis, as some of you may know have been on this blog before! Kim is my sister’s husband’s niece! Travis is obviously Kim’s husband and quite frankly, I like to call them my muses! I ADORE photographing them, I find their passion for life, all things creative and most importantly each other, so incredibly inspiring!

The first time I got to photograph them was for what I call a One More Time session where they got all dressed up again in their wedding attire and we took some photographs in unlikely wedding day locations! Such as a Redwood forest and the top of a very high hill overlooking the Ocean! This maternity session is the second time I have worked with Kim and Travis and then I have a third under my belt already… yes the birth of this child!

More on that later. For now let me explain for those that may be wondering exactly what is meant by Lifestyle Photography!  For me it means taking images in places that are real to the client, giving me the opportunity to photograph my clients in a photojournalist way in a setting that is meaningful.  One of the goals is to capture a day in the life type feeling to the images.  These are special not only for how they will be viewed now but also for how generations from now will view them. Imagine how Kim and Travis’ grandchildren will feel when looking at pictures of their grandparents photographed this way! I’m sure they will oohh and ahh over their love for each other but also their hairstyles, their clothing and the setting.

We started off in one of their favorite nooks in Golden Gate Park, just minutes from their apartment!

If only this image could be like a scratch and sniff sticker!  The Eucalyptus trees were giving off the most amazing scent on this sunny and warm day!Next we went over to one of Kim and Travis’ favorite local coffee shops, Beachside Coffee Bar & Kitchen for coffee, tea and yummy treats!Heading back to their apartment I was in photo heaven!  After 22 years in NYC, the landscape of San Francisco is fascinating to me. I love the soft palette of the colors and of course the crazy diagonal lines created by the above ground telephone wires!As we entered into their home, I wasn’t surprised at all to walk in and see it furnished so creatively.  Touches of love everywhere you looked!  I adore this image of Travis helping Kim with her shirt. This image is a perfect example of Lifestyle Photography!

We started in the nursery that was decorated with so much love and DIY creativity, from the mobile, to the shelves, to the drawers, to the reupholstered glider!  This little girl is going to love her room!On the right is Kim’s birthing necklace that was created for her at her Baby Shower. Every woman was asked to bring a bead, which Kim’s cousin then strung to make a beautiful necklace for Kim to reflect on while in labor.

On to the most comfortable couch ever!  Home to many snuggles and lazy weekend naps I’m sure! This is one of my favorite images of them.  It’s signature Kim and Travis in my eyes! It’s fun to work several times with clients, the more you get to know them, the easier it is to create signature images.Alright, this is NOT lifestyle, I made them read the books, I thought it would be funny! Of course they look adorable reading them!

Love it! Little baby girl communicating with her parents!List of baby names, love them all!  Greg and I know just how hard this decision can be!A goodbye for now… as it was only a few weeks later I was coming back into this apartment for an exciting reason!  Stay tuned for some images from the birth of this little baby girl here in this home!
